Logan (BOS) to Boston: Bus, Subway or Boat
Part of the full Boston in One Day: The Freedom Trail

Boston Logan’s Silver Line bus is free from every terminal and reaches South Station in about 20 minutes, and one Blue Line stop away in East Boston, Piers Park faces the downtown skyline across the harbour.
The Silver Line bus from Logan is free and takes about 20 minutes
The Silver Line SL1 bus picks up at every terminal at Boston Logan, and no fare is collected at the airport’s stops, so the ride in costs nothing; it runs through the harbour tunnel to South Station in about 20 minutes, calling at the Seaport on the way. The ride back out is the standard $2.40, and a tap onto the Red Line subway first transfers free. For the Blue Line subway instead, a free Massport shuttle bus, run by the airport authority, runs from the terminals to Airport station, two stops from Aquarium and the North End. The main Boston guide walks the Freedom Trail from Faneuil Hall to the Common.
The harbour has its own routes. The free Route 66 shuttle runs from every terminal curb to Logan’s Water Transportation Dock, where Boston Water Taxi crosses on demand to the downtown wharves, Charlestown and the Seaport, about 10 minutes and roughly $15 to $20 one way, best booked ahead. Since June 29, 2026, the weekday Harbor Loop ferry run by the MBTA, Boston’s transit authority, has also called at the dock every 30 minutes in the morning and evening peaks, for $2.40, looping to Central Wharf by the Aquarium, Lovejoy Wharf by North Station and the Seaport. Arriving back by water earns a Ticket to Skip, which moves you to the front of the security line at your terminal.
Whale watching from the downtown wharves
Whale-watching boats leave from the downtown wharves beside the New England Aquarium, where the water taxi and the Harbor Loop ferry both land, for three to four hours out to Stellwagen Bank, a marine sanctuary where humpback and finback whales feed. A whale-watching catamaran cruise runs with a naturalist on board; sailings are seasonal, so check the dates, and with the crossing each way it needs six hours or more between flights.

The downtown skyline from Piers Park in East Boston
Piers Park, a harbourside park on the southwest edge of East Boston, is about ten minutes’ walk from Maverick station, one Blue Line stop from the airport, and it faces the whole downtown skyline across the water, with a community sailing centre on the pier. The Harborwalk, Boston’s waterfront path, runs on to LoPresti Park, and back to Maverick Square makes a short loop that costs nothing.
Luggage storage at Logan Airport
Boston Logan has no left-luggage office or lockers inside its terminals, so a suitcase either stays with you or goes to a luggage storage point downtown, near South Station or the wharves. The water route to the city means a shuttle bus, a pier and a boat each way, three changes with a suitcase in tow.
Collect the bag on the way back to the Silver Line, and leave at least two hours for the ride, check-in and security, since the bus shares the harbour tunnel with everything else leaving the city.
